It seems the 2016 Grammy’s will be dominated by hip hop music!
The
nominees were unveiled on Monday (7 December) and rapper Kendrick Lamar
leads the pack with eleven nominations - the highest since Michael
Jackson in 1984 – with his album ‘To Pimp A Butterfly’. Taylor Swift and
The Weeknd both received seven each for ‘1989’ and ‘Beauty Behind The
Madness’ respectively.
Other notable
nominees include Ed Sheeran for ‘Thinking Out Loud’ which has been named
the most streamed song of 2014 with over half a billion listens on
Spotify. Ellie Goulding for her Fifty Shades of Grey soundtrack single
‘Love Me Like You Do’ as well as Big Sean for “One Man Can Change The
World”.
Nicki Minaj got a nod for Best
Rap Album (she’s the only female rapper in this category) alongside J
Cole, Dr Dre, Drake and Kendrick Lamar. Skrillex and Diplo’s song with
Bieber “Where Are You Now” was nominated for Best Dance Recording while
the duos collaborative effort ‘Skrillex & Diplo Present Jack U’ got
Best Dance/Electronic Album.
